I haven't read any of his books yet, but I've heard Harold Schechter be called one of the best true crime writers around. His books on Ed Gein, H.H. Holmes, Albert Fish, and others are highly rated in this genre.
Some say it is the book that started the True Crime genre. I've read this one and it is a real hum dinger. I'd give it 5/5 any time.
