Let's Make a Podcast! B2.1

In this project you have a simple goal. Create a podcast with a partner about something that you are both interested in, upload it, create comprehension questions, and allow us to listen to it in class. 

Step 1: Find your partner and agree on a topic to discuss. 

Step 2: Tell me about your topic so I can approve or advise you on your topic. 

Step 3: Discuss what you want to talk about with your partner. Create an outline to use to organize your discussion. Note cards, etc. 

Step 4: Record your podcast using the Soundcloud app. It is easy to use and upload the podcast. Keep it under 5 minutes. 

Step 5: After recording your podcast create some multiple choice comprehension questions for us to answer when we listen to your podcast in class. Email or give me a paper copy of these questions. (andrewnovakefny@gmail.com)

Step 6: Enjoy others podcasts in class and answer some comprehension questions to practice listening. Receive feedback on pronunciation and vocabulary.

Medicine... its pretty scary.

Hi All!

This is a simple listen, note, and present type of project. Here is what I need you do before you present to the class.

1. Choose a podcast from the list of episodes that I give you.
2. With a PARTNER, listen to the episode and note down the most important information that they give you about the topic. Create an outline.
3. Discuss your own opinions on the topic and be sure to note them down to include on your presentation.

Presentation.

1. What happened? How does your podcast relate to the field of medicine? A very brief intro/summary.
2. What did you know about this topic before you listened?
3. Give a summary of what was mentioned in the podcast, along with any of the more insane details that were mentioned (details get people's attention!) You are the editor here so decide what stays and what goes.
4. Give your opinion of what happened and any questions you would have for the people involved in this story.
5. Would you recommend people listen to this episode or not?

Your presentation should be 10 to 12 minutes long.

You may use prezi, powerpoint, etc. Make sure to include pictures if possible.

If your topic is graphic in nature, please include a disclaimer.

I haven't read any of his books yet, but I've heard Harold Schechter be called one of the best true crime writers around. His books on Ed Gein, H.H. Holmes, Albert Fish, and others are highly rated in this genre.



Some say it is the book that started the True Crime genre. I've read this one and it is a real hum dinger. I'd give it 5/5 any time. The way that Capote brings the characters to life (and in many cases back to life) is truly inspiring and though this may be a story of murder, the way it is told is truly beautiful.



Haven't read it yet but many people have recommended this book. It is an account of the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, the architects that built it, as well as the serial killer and "Murder Castle" builder H.H. Holmes. If you are a fan of American history, this is a must.

Assignment: Presentation on an Environmental Disaster of Your Choosing.

Your presentation must address the following:

• Where and when did this event occur?
• Were there any measures that should have been taken to prevent this catastrophe?
• What happened during the lead up to the event?
• What were the initial consequences? What were the long term impacts?
• What was done as a result to prevent this kind of disaster from happening again?
• In your opinion, will an event like this happen again or not?
• Please include any additional information you deem to be relevant. 

You should either create a Prezi or a Powerpoint presentation to present your findings to the class.

Alice Paul. Badass suffragette who got sick of waiting around. 

Susan B. Anthony. Perhaps the most famous and outspoken of the suffragettes. She died 14 years before women got the right to vote. 

How does this battle over suffrage make you feel? Would you fight as hard as those in the National Women's Party would for this right? When did your own country give all people the right to vote?

If you are interested in the #Metoo movement I couldn't suggest more that you read this article that just came out today from the New Yorker about New York State Attorney General (The highest officer of the court in the state, appointed by the Governor of New York) Eric Schniederman. Schneiderman was an outspoken advocate for the #Metoo movement so this article was a massive surprise to the public at large. Read the article to learn more...
